AI scheduler appears to create "extra" tasks & it's hard to figure out what's going on

Filing this per recent conversation w/ support, trying to a) show a reproduction and b) show how the current UX makes Morgen challenging to use, day-to-day.
Issue:
After running the AI scheduler, a task that should be scheduled annually (on March 9) showed up redundantly and early, on July 2nd. The task is already (correctly) scheduled in the future for March 9. Prior to running the scheduler, there was no corresponding task on July 2nd. It is unclear why the behavior would happen, as the task in question has not been viewed or modified.
Further, it is hard to debug the behavior and impossible to have confidence in Morgen to correctly schedule things. This hurts product perception, and definitely dissuades me from using Morgen for important activities.
Reproduction:
- Create an task in the taskbar (left).
- Drag the task to the calendar to create a task/event* and schedule it to recur on March 9, annually.
- Run the AI scheduler. In some cases, the task is created on a day that is not March 9.
Desired behavior commentary/feature:
The current UX is very confusing. I understand that tasks can "split" and become multiple, different entities (e.g., when copying a task to the calendar, or when editing a task that is on the calendar, changing it from the original task). Despite this understanding, I cannot fathom how to achieve my goal:
- I would like to easily schedule tasks to recur, reliably, on a schedule I specify.
- I would like to easily see all instances of a recurring task in a single place, or at least a summary of them.
- I would like to be able to change all (or, "all future") instances of a task in one operation.
- I would like the tasks to reliably be scheduled only on the dates/times that I specify, when I do specify specific dates and times.
- I would like a clear indication of the linkage between tasks on my calendar and tasks in my task list (that implies the relationship between a source task and an task/event is maintained).
Commentary on current UX:
- I'm confused when I open a task/event* and see that it is "not recurring" when it clearly was spawned from an event in my task list, and is clearly related to a recurring task/event. See first & second inline pic.
- I'm confused why my recurring event (scheduled for March 9) is properly scheduled, but then a duplicate is scheduled for July 2. See third inline pic.
- I find this "split" between tasks, event/tasks, and the fragmented behavior between both intensely confusing and often frustrating.
- I'm sure it's made worse by some odd AI behavior (I'm convinced there are scheduling bugs), and the artifacts that behavior leaves behind (e.g., a cloned event/task on July 2 that is marked "not recurring").
- Having two different "search" bars is very confusing. I really want a unified view so I don't have to hunt for information. When I find something in the calendar search, then I have to go do another search in the task list... it's complicated and annoying. Give me a unified and smart search tool.
Key points:
- Yes, I think there's a bug somewhere. The July 2 event/task was NOT there before I ran the AI. I've run the AI many times recently. Just today, randomly, it decided to recreate this task on July 2 (even though it already exists on March 9, 2026).
- What I REALLY REALLY want to convey is the CONFUSION the current user interface causes, in combination with the fragmented behavior of tasks/events. It's hard to know what's going on.
* (I'm at a loss for describing "tasks in my calendar," versus "tasks in my task list," so I'm referring to the former as "task/event" – overall I find this dichotomy very higgledy-piggledy).

OMG. Just adding this... when I try to "clean up" the mess by deleting any extraneous, extra scheduled tasks, I get this (see pic). "This task will be deleted everywhere." Nooooooo!!!! I just want to delete the extra one that got scheduled!
Specifically, I don't want to mark it "complete" for a couple of reasons:
- That's wrong. I did notcomplete it today, I completed back when it was due on March 9.
- It clutters (and blocks) my timeline.
- Leaving it here adds to the confusion. When I search for this in the future, and see it on July 2, I'll be wondering wth is going on...
Obviously, the task/event shouldn't even exist – what I should be able to do is delete this extraneous one without affecting any of the other instances... ☹

Zac: To clarify, this is a recurring task session which was scheduled by the AI planner and you pushed delete on your keyboard to remove the session and this pop up appeared.
Is that correct?

Danny Hatcher well, I right-clicked and selected "unschedule and delete." It didn't occur to me that pressing the "delete" key might trigger a different behavior. Pressing the "delete" key
does
do what I want. I'm surprised the popup menu doesn't have an item for simply "delete."Danny Hatcher
Zac: The delete key deletes the task session which is scheduling the session.
The delete option on the right click is to delete the task completely which will remove all previous sessions.
There are a few terms that can get confusing.
Unschedule - Removes the highlighted time blocked sessions.
Delete - Removes the task and related time blocked sessions from Morgen.
Complete - Checks the task session done. Triggers an archive task question (yes or no).
Archive - Checks the task and all scheduled sessions done. These are stored in Morgen and can be restored.
This is due to the multi-session option Morgen has with tasks.

Danny Hatcher may I suggest this UX?
- change r-clk pop up menu to just have “delete”
- selecting it will prompt the user: “do you want to delete just this task, all tasks, or simply unscheduled this instance?” (Or something like that).
I think a UX like that would help users that are searching for specific functionality and not finding it clearly visible in the UX.

Danny Hatcher see above treatise. Following on our conversation. Hoping this adds some fidelity to the conversation.
