Provide a read-only Google Tasks calendar dedicated to automatically populating dated Google Tasks as read-ony
N
Nasser
I am using Google Tasks to define a range of tasks, and many of them have been set with a date/time as a deadline. What I noticed is that Google Calendar is automatically populating those tasks into a "Tasks" calendar (therefore they can be disables/enabled from the calendar view in Google Calendar).
But this "Tasks" calendar doesn't appear in the Morgen synced calendar list for the Google accounts. As a way around it, I had to create another calendar (in Google Calendar), so that Morgen sees it. I then have to manually move those tasks to the calendar I made.
It would be nice if the timed tasks are automatically populated into a dedicated tasks calendar (maybe let the user select which calendar to add into). Or, maybe you already have access to the Google Tasks calendar (the one that appears as "Tasks" in Google Calendar). Would be nice to give the user the option to propagate this, even if it's just a read-only of the Google Tasks items (you already have this information, since you are already populating them in the Morgen tasks section).
I appreciate the Morgen philosophy of being able to manually "drag" and schedule tasks from the Tasks section in Morgen, onto the Morgen calendar (and to a dedicated calendar set in the settings). This is important, and I would love this to stay as it is. I think the "auto propagating" of the Google Tasks should be an additional option (maybe read-only to avoid the task content going out of sync with the actual Google Tasks information). This way, a user "dragging" a task to be scheduled is different from "predefined timed tasks in Google Task".
For example, the deadline of my "Complete report" task in Google Task is dated as due on 27th May. This is the deadline that I've set in Google Tasks. In Morgen, I can "drag" this Task to the Morgen calendar, and schedule time out to work on it. This should go to a tasks calendar I define in Morgen (as is currently the case). However, I would still like to see the "deadline" of the "Complete report" Google Task appearing on the 27th May. If I change the details of the task (like due date or title or description) in Google Tasks, this should be refreshed in Morgen. I think keeping this calendar as read-only is the safest option.
In the current solution, we have to manually drag tasks to Morgen. The first problem is the inconvenience, but the main problem is that everything very quickly gets out of sync and outdated unless we manually go back and delete the tasks and re-drag them. I do like that "scheduled" tasks in Morgen allow editing the description (since it's now a Morgen matter). This is nice and should stay. So, it's only the extra read-only propagation that I'm looking for, so that important deadlines (as dated Google Tasks) are always correctly in sync and visible, without relying on the user to drag it (and drag it to the correct place). If date changes (e.g there was a deadline extension), the user only needs to change it in one place (Google Tasks) rather than go and fiddle with it also in Morgen.
Thank you :-)

Google tasks + other integration bring the time with the due date
Danny Hatcher
Can the time be brought in from the integrations so we can see it. Even though it isn't scheduled, seeing the time would help us know when we should schedule it.
Workflow eg: I say hey Google remind me tomorrow at 6pm to do thing. The task can go into Morgen via the Google tasks integration but I loose the 6pm bit of do thing.

Hello, thank you for this.
If I understand correctly I think there are 2 points here:
- Due dates in Google tasks can't be visualized yet in Morgen but there is a request for this here: https://morgen.canny.io/feature-requests/p/google-tasks-and-ms-todo-due-date-visualization
- Syncing schedule dates between the apps. Google tasks has 1 date and time but in Morgen there can be multiple which creates various issues showing that in Morgen. This is consistent across all integrations.
I use Google tasks when in the car "hey Google add task....." then when I go onto my PC I schedule when I am going to do the tasks (normally 2 or three times in the next week) but the date I said in the car is still the due date (deadline).
The recent custom filters helps me see all my task sources together so I don't miss anything but the saved filters list request will help my workflow: https://morgen.canny.io/feature-requests/p/combined-task-list-saved-filtered-views
Hopefully this helps.
Is there a specific feature here you think I have missed?

Thanks for update. I think #1 is asking the same thing. But just to clarify, I show you an annotated screenshot from my web browser on the Google Calendar (i.e. https://calendar.google.com). Here you can see I have 3x Google Tasks (with at least a date, sometimes also a time set). Google appears to automatically populate these into a dedicated Tasks calendar (which it created). These tasks, inside this calendar, appear as if they are all-day events. It's really nice. You can see it even has the Google Tasks icon (the checkmark) on the title of the "event" (which is a task), so it's very easy to distinguish this as a Task compared to a regular all-day event. Hope that helps.
I feel this should be easy to visualise in Morgen. You already have the functionality to visualise all-day events (for events added to a calendar). So all you need to do, is read the Google Tasks, and see if they have a date set. If they do, you create a new "event" inside a dedicated Tasks calendar. You set it as an all-day event in that calendar, and magically it should appear. The user can then specify in Morgen whether to enable them or not (as it's just another calendar under that Google account). You might even already have direct access to the Google Tasks "calendar" (which I highlight in my screenshot), so it'll be even easier.
Sorry if I am making it sound too simple, but I really feel you already have this functionality, and it's just a sneaky/smart workaround to reuse existing logic/code you already have implemented :-)
Let me know if I didn't explain myself well, thanks heaps.

Nasser: Yes, visualizing due dates can be done with Morgen tasks and many of the other integrations.
They show in the all day section with a red overline seen below.
I made the feature request to visualize Google tasks so 🤞 with enough votes and feedback it will boosted in priority.
Do you think I could merge these requests?

Danny Hatcher: I can't see these red lines in my all-day section. Is there a setting where I can enable it? If so, I don't know which one. I attach another screenshot of the same week in Morgan, and annotate my explanation there. Hope that helps.
But if that is what the other post is trying to do, then sure they can be merged. Thank you.

Nasser The visualization setting is in the 'view' options down the bottom of the attached picture.
Google tasks are not shown yet which is the other feature request.
I hope that makes sense.

Looks like I'm missing this option? Attached screenshot of what I see in the View option. Looks a bit different from yours.

Nasser If you have Google tasks selected at the top it won't show as an option as it isn't a current feature - hence the request.
If you select default Morgen tasks it should show.

Ah, I see now! I didn't realise the context of that option changes. But yes! This is exactly what I'd love to see for Google Tasks to be rendered in a similar way. Thanks for clarifying!
